Monument to the Mother

Monument to the Mother

The Monument to the Mother, inaugurated on May 10, 1949, on Insurgentes Norte Avenue, was created by sculptor Luis Ortiz Monasterio and architect José Villagrán García as a tribute to motherhood and the family. Its origin dates back to 1922, when Mother's Day was instituted in Mexico thanks to Rafael Alducín and José Vasconcelos. The sculptural group, in Art Deco style with pre-Hispanic influence, includes figures representing the mother, education, and fertility. After suffering serious damage in the earthquake of September 19, 2017, the monument was restored and reinaugurated in 2018 using original materials.
