Callejón J.J. Herrera (Callejón de los Desamparados / Callejón de la Inquisición)

Historically known as Callejón de los Desamparados and Callejón de la Inquisición, today it bears the official name of José Joaquín Herrera. This passage was used to transfer and lock up people accused of heresy, blasphemy, or sodomy before being taken to Mexico City to be tried by the Holy Inquisition. It is closely related to the current Casa Principal, where it is believed the Tribunal of the Holy Office was located. It also stands out for its ancient constructions made with hard coral and mortar.
