Reino Mágico Park
The park was inaugurated on November 10, 1988 by Governor Fernando Gutiérrez Barrios and Municipal President Gerardo Poo Ulibarri. In its early years it featured children's games such as swings and slides, as well as themed areas inspired by the Old West and the tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, including its characteristic castle. It also had a swimming pool area with water slides which, to this day, remains closed to public access. Before becoming a recreational space for the families of the port, the land served as the city's General Cemetery.
Flora and Fauna
Inside the park, a great variety of flora can be found, among which almendro trees, golden shower trees, ceibas, súchitl, flamboyants, old man's beard, teak trees, casuarinas, apachite palm, oaks, kerpis palm and rubber trees stand out. Of this last species, two specimens of exceptional natural value are notable: one approximately 300 years old and another around 150 years old.
As for fauna, the park is home to species such as the black iguana, green iguana, opossum, great-tailed grackle, red-billed pigeon, domestic pigeon and long-tailed dove, all of which are part of the characteristic biodiversity of this natural space.
Municipal Nursery
The nursery is located within Reino Mágico Park and began operations on April 20, 2010, with an initial area of 500 square meters. Subsequently, on May 4, 2011, the area was expanded by an additional 2.5 hectares, and finally, on August 13, 2014, half a hectare was added to strengthen its plant production and conservation capacity.
Among the tree species reproduced in the nursery are cedars, mahogany, old man's beard, flamboyants, neem, oaks, súchitl, citrus trees, soursop, icacos and sea grapes. Various palms are also cultivated, including apachite, areca, kerpis and rubelina. In the ornamental area, notable plants include Cuban duranta, sea foam, common ixora, dwarf ixora, spider plant, yellow rea, purple rea, amaranths, aralias, bello guillermo, red coqueta, green coqueta and coleus, all of which enrich the botanical diversity of the park.
